Half of parents ‘cancel’ after school activities due to extra expense

Autumn is here and the children head back to school and with it comes all the extra clubs including after school clubs.

New research from MyVoucherCodes has found that over a third, 34%, of parents claim that their children do not take part in after school activities; of which half have had to ‘cancel’ the activities in a bid to ‘save money’.

As part of ongoing research into the parenting habits of Britons, MyVoucherCodes has conducted a study of 1,192 parents in a bid to discover their attitudes towards after school activities, such as dance and swimming lessons.

The study, conducted by MyVocuherCodes, asked the respondents if their children attended after school activities; to which two fifths, 42%, answered ‘Yes’.

A third, 34%, of the parents polled stated that their children did not take part in after school activities, whilst the remaining quarter, 24%, of the parents who took part in the study said that their children ‘occasionally’ took part in activities out of school hours.

The third of respondents who stated that their children did not attend after school activities were asked to identify the main reasons why this was the case. According to the research, more than half, 52%, said they had to ‘cancel activities’ with an aim to ‘save money’.
